March 30, 2023 the Debates in Karl Popper format \u201dEU Mechanisms for Combating Modern Challenges and Threats: Strength vs Weaknesses\u201d has been conducted within the International Scientific and Practical Conference \u2018Mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats: Lessons from the EU for Ukraine\u2019 that has been held at Sumy State University within the Project of the Programme EU Erasmus+ \u00abImplementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats\u00bb (101085700 \u2013 IMEU \u2013 ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH) (2022-2025).<\/p>\n

As part of the debate between representatives of the Project’s target groups (representatives of the academic community, local authorities, business structures, civic activists and other stakeholders), the issue of the effectiveness of the mechanisms of cultural diplomacy in the context of the challenges of the war has been discussed. The main purpose of debates is to develop students’ critical thinking skills, search for arguments, respect for opponents, as well as the ability to convey one’s own opinion in a polite manner.<\/p>\n

The 2nd debate tournament in Karl Popper format \u201cEU Mechanisms for Combating Modern Challenges and Threats: Strengths vs Weaknesses\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

On May 19, 2023, during the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference \u201cInternational Economic Relations and Sustainable Development<\/a>\u201d, held at the Department of International Economic Relations of Sumy State University, academics PhD, Associate Professor\u00a0Viktoriia Shkola<\/a>, and PhD, Associate Professor\u00a0Maryna Domashenko<\/a>\u00a0conducted the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0debate tournament in Karl Popper format \u201cEU mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats: strengths and weaknesses\u201d. The debate was held within the Project of the Programme EU Erasmus+ \u201cImplementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats\u201d (101085700 \u2013 IMEU \u2013 ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH) (2022-2025).<\/p>\n

During the debate between representatives of the Project\u2019s target groups (students, researchers, academics, the representatives of local authorities, business structures, and other stakeholders), a number of issues, including the effectiveness of the sanctions mechanism against countries that provide Russia with trade channels and the conceptual principles of forming a mechanism for registering damages caused by Russia to Ukraine, were discussed.<\/p>\n
