On 20-21 February 2025, within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ Project \u201cImplementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats\u201d (101085700 – IMEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEITCH-RSCH) (2022-2025), the III International Scientific and Practical Conference \u201cMechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats: Lessons from the EU for Ukraine\u201d was held at Sumy State University.<\/p>\n

More than 80 participants representing diverse backgrounds and professions, including scientists, teachers, students, business representatives, civil servants, public activists and other stakeholders from 14 countries (Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, USA), came together to share their insights and experiences at the conference.<\/p>\n

The event has been organised as a series of presentations about the Project, speakers’ reports on the best cases from the EU’s experience in countering modern challenges and threats, question and answer sessions, panel discussions, and promotion of further activities. Thus, the results of the EU Erasmus+ Project \u201cImplementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats\u201d were discussed during the conference. Moreover, the project team and conference participants presented professional, meaningful and exciting reports. Their discussion has been held within thematic sections.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, as part of the conference, the \u201cEU Mechanisms for Combating Modern Challenges and Threats: Strength vs Weaknesses\u201d debate<\/a> was held in a Karl Popper format. The issues of \u201cRare earth metals in Ukraine: should we sign a deal with the USA?\u201d and \u201cFurther strengthening Ukraine-EU-NATO cooperation: feasibility, challenges and threats\u201d were discussed during the debate.<\/p>\n

By and large, this event allowed all the participants to increase their awareness of risk and safety issues, expand their knowledge about the EU priority strategies, and attract learners to the educational courses and training of the Project. Moreover, the conference contributed to achieving the aims of the EU Erasmus+ Project, such as:<\/p>\n
