Professor Oleksii Plastun, along with colleagues Professor Inna Makarenko
\n(University of Helsinki, Finland) and Professor Tetyana Hryniova
\n(LAPP\/IN2P3\/CNRS, Annecy, France), have published the results of their research
\ntitled “Secret Friends of Russian (Propaganda) Science” on the analytical platform
\nVox Ukraine.
\nWhile Russia is currently under 19,000 various sanctions, certain areas remain
\nuntouched, such as the perceived sanctity of Russian culture and science, where
\nimposing restrictions is often seen as taboo due to the principle of academic
\nfreedom. Russia has been taking advantage of this by disseminating propaganda
\nthrough scientific publications. Despite this, many international journals,
\npublishers, and scientometric databases continue to cooperate with Russian
\njournals and institutions, even if these entities openly support the war and the
\nannexation of Ukrainian territories. Unfortunately, Ukraine sometimes
\ninadvertently supports this cooperation by registering Russian journals, and some
\nUkrainian scientists even publish their research alongside Russian colleagues in
\nthese journals.
\nThe Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MON) is working to combat
\nthis issue, though its resources are limited. The article exposes the scale of the
\nproblem and calls upon concerned scientists to help address it.
