On January 10-15, 2022, the winter online school “EU-Asia Relations in a Multipolar World” (Manipal, Karnataka, India) will be held at the Manipal Center for European Studies, the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence and the Nordic Center in India. This winter school will be a forum for studying EU-Asia relations for scholars from around the world. The program will bring participants together to take a critical look at the complex factors that form the relationship between these two parts of the world. The school aims to create a platform for dialogue between leading European and Asian scholars in the field of research between the EU and Asia, to promote long-term academic and scientific cooperation.
Since the distribution of power spreads rapidly from West to East, the world faces a crisis of multilateralism and liberal values. In this context, Europe and Asia try to define their role in the emerging multipolar world. The publication of the EU Global Strategy five years ago marked a significant shift in the EU’s foreign policy narrative. The Union has now taken the political initiative, taking on a “geopolitical” role while strengthening its resilience and strategic autonomy. The prospects for deepening EU-Asia relations in the future will be examined more closely as the EU and Asia adapt to the new division of power and the challenges ahead. These events will inevitably have a positive and detrimental effect on EU-Asia relations.
The winter school course will focus on these issues and will combine lectures, online discussions, panels and additional analysis of materials, allowing participants, politicians and researchers to understand the dynamics of relations with the EU.
