Students of the Department of International Economic Relations of Sumy State University participate in the international COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) program “Innovation Economics”, which is implemented in cooperation with the CERGE-EI Foundation (Prague, Czech Republic). The program is implemented in the spring semester of the 2025–2026 academic year – from April 29 to June 19, 2026.
The purpose of the course is to study the role of innovation and technological progress in economic development, to study the mechanisms of creation and dissemination of new knowledge, as well as to analyze the impact of competition, state policy and intellectual property on the innovative activities of companies and countries.
The COIL format involves international online interaction between students and teachers from different universities, joint discussions, individual projects, analysis of practical cases and work in a multicultural academic environment. The program’s feature is the combination of modern educational methods with the use of artificial intelligence tools for in-depth analysis of economic processes.
During the course, participants explore:
- the relationship between competition and innovation activity;
- the role of patents, copyrights and trademarks in economic development;
- processes of commercialization of innovations and creation of successful business models;
- mechanisms of international knowledge transfer;
- formation of innovation clusters;
- sources of financing for innovation projects, in particular venture capital, grants and state support.
Educational activities include lectures, seminars, preparation of thematic essays, weekly discussions in small groups and a final exam.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to analyze modern innovation processes, assess the impact of technological development on economic growth, and apply economic theories to solve practical problems in the field of innovation economics.
