On December 14, 2014 in the Academy was held VI Kendo Championship of Ukraine which was attended by fencing masters from different parts of Ukraine. To test his own technique of fencing and fortitude representatives of clubs and federations of Japanese fencing from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Vinnitsa, Krasnoarmeysk visited Sumy.
Competitions were held in four categories: juniors, men, women, teams. Everyone could spend a day in the unique atmosphere of medieval Japan, when people devoted their lives to the Way of the Sword.At the official opening of the championship the participants were greeted by Professor of the Department of International Economics Alex Kostyuk. He noted some similarities between Ukrainian and Japanese people, history and culture, in which memories of outstanding soldiers are valued. Professor Kostyuk said that the key virtues that are valued by people who have chosen the path of Sword are honor and good name. These virtues have become crucial in the current stage of development of Ukraine. In his speech, he also announced the creation of the Ukrainian-Japanese Center, the official opening of which will take place after the completion of all training procedures.
Once again, the Academy became the center of an interesting and unique event, confirming its status of not only scientific and educational, but also a cultural and sports center of Sumy region, famous all over Ukraine.
