The lecturer of the department represented Ukraine at the summit of European regions within the Horizon2020 project

In the framework of the European summit “European Regions for SMART Communities”, which took place on May 9-14, 2022 in the Alentejo region, Portugal, a lecturer at the Department of IER Ph.D., Associate Professor Zamora O.M. acted as a member of the Advisory Committee at the plenary meeting of the RegHub group and as a moderator of the debate session “Youth” as a member of the scientific committee of the project AURORAL, funded by Horizon2020. The total number of speakers at the summit is 240 from all over Europe. The format of the event is a hybrid with live streaming on the summit website http://www.eu-smart.community/#/
The event aims to reach out to cooperating regions to respond together to the digital transformation with fair, effective, sustainable and competitive policies at the city and regional levels for SMART communities and their hubs. This dialogue with mayors, presidents of regions, representatives of the Committee of the Regions, members of the European Commission and the European Parliament took place during the summit sessions in Evora. This summit is the result of the Portuguese presidency (January-June 2021), in which the President of the European Committee of the Regions was the keynote speaker at the final session. The summit hosted the first plenary meeting of the RegHub Group of the Committee of the Regions after a long online period. This particular RegHub meeting is relevant for setting the political and legislative agenda in cooperation with the Commission, namely in the framework of Living-in.EU for the regions. Last week, the President of the Committee of the Regions noted the need to include Ukraine in its membership to integrate interests.
