“Information and Digital Development for sustainable future”: a new education course within the EU Erasmus+ Project “Implementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats”

On June 19, 2023 the third module of a new education course started at the Department of International Economic Relations within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ Program Project «Implementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats» (101085700 – IMEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEITCH-RSCH) (2022-2025 рр.) – “Information and Digital Development for sustainable future” (18 hours), provided by academics of the Department – PhD, associate professor Viktoriia Shkola and PhD, associate professor Maryna Domashenko, as well as external experts.

The total audience of registered participants of the third module is over150 people from Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, UK, Ukraine, including scientists, academics and teachers, students, representatives of state and local authorities, business, as well as other stakeholders.

During the trainings on June 19-20, 20203 the participants considered strategic aspects of technological risk management, the influence of technological trends on the innovation policy development, EU approaches to financial support of priority technological areas, the impact of digitalization on the fight against corruption. Moreover,  the important issues whether digitalization is a determining factor of Ukraine’s success; why digitalization does not accelerate economic growth at the macro level; what the EU can do to ensure a more effective digital “transformation” into economic growth were discussed. Furthermore, training course participants studied the cases of the EU smart cities formation and development.

External experts on EU digitization and economic development were involved in the discussions, namely

  • Oleksandr Vyshnevskyi – Doctor of Science in Economics, senior researcher, deputy director of Institute of Industrial Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine – presented the report “Economic growth of the EU in conditions of digitalization: expectations and zeal” using the example of empirical research;
  • Nelya Degtyareva – Ph.D., Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Informatics, Sumy State Pedagogical University named afterS.Makarenko, –held a workshop on creating mobile applications.

Participating in the training helped participants develop crucial skills for success in higher education, careers and professional life in modern democratic society. Meanwhile, it should be noted that within a practice-oriented framework the training course participants obtained professional skills in creating mobile applications.

In general, within the Project, a series of activities aimed at the formation of new knowledge about the EU’s latest mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats are scheduled.
