On 13 October 2026, the Department of International Economic Relations at Sumy State University hosted an open guest lecture entitled “International Security: The Strait of Hormuz and the Black Sea”.
The invited speaker was Dr. Gerasimos Rodotheatos, Assistant Professor at the College of Security and Global Studies, American University in the Emirates (UAE).
The lecture addressed current issues of international security, focusing on the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and the Black Sea in contemporary international relations. Participants explored geopolitical challenges and security threats in these regions, as well as their implications for global trade, international transport routes, energy security, and the world economy.
One of the most valuable aspects of such events is the opportunity to discuss pressing global challenges directly with international experts whose professional work focuses on these issues. This enables students and academic staff not only to deepen their theoretical knowledge but also to explore different analytical perspectives, ask questions, and develop a better understanding of complex international developments.
For students of international economic relations, such discussions are particularly relevant, as contemporary economic processes are closely interconnected with geopolitical developments, international security, and the transformation of global trade relations.
We sincerely thank Dr. Gerasimos Rodotheatos for an insightful lecture, his openness to academic dialogue, and the opportunity to discuss important issues shaping today’s global environment!
