Students and PhD students from the Department of International Economic Relations are participating in a youth exchange in Athens happening from March 20 to 28, 2025. The event, part of the Erasmus+ KA152 project titled “H2O Heroes: Youth Tackling Water Scarcity,” takes place in Athens. Participants from the SumDU side include a PhD student Sofia Petrenko, students Maksym Dranovsky, Taisiia Fomenko, Anna Oliinyk, recent department graduate Mariya Novhorodtseva, and Darina Hudakova from the International Cooperation Office.
Our project focuses on the increasingly relevant issue of water pollution in the modern technological world. It analyzes the impact of industrial production, agriculture, power generation, and domestic effluents on water resources. The project aims to identify key factors contributing to water pollution, such as factory waste, chemicals, and irrational water consumption, and to develop strategies to minimize these impacts. It also examines the consequences of such activities for aquatic ecosystems and the possibilities of ensuring sustainable access to clean water.
Additionally, the project addresses access to water resources as a crucial aspect of human rights, emphasizing everyone’s right to life and health. In this context, recommendations are being developed for water conservation and rational use measures, as well as initiatives to reduce the risk of water scarcity. Our goal is not only to identify problems but also to motivate the youth to actively protect water resources, raise awareness about the importance of water, and develop responsible water use behavior.
Project partners include Passpartout Group (Romania), Sumy State University (Ukraine), Hitit University (Turkey), Girona’s Global Youngsters (Spain), and Innovative Entrepreneurs (Germany).
