Sumy State University invites you to participate for free in the unique course on Academic writing in English as part of the Czech project and win a grant for a trip to Prague

Within the framework of the joint project with the Czech University of Natural Sciences in Prague and a consortium of 4 Ukrainian universities “ ENHANCEMENT OF THE PHD STUDENTS POTENTIAL FOR QUALITATIVE RESEARCH IN UKRAINE “, Sumy State University invites you to take part in an intensive course on academic writing in English for free, held from 22.08 to 30.09 online on the Canvas platform.

The course is specifically designed for postgraduate students, novice researchers or scientists who wish to improve their ability to present the results of their research in English at a highly professional level and is aimed at strengthening the capacity and collaboration of young teachers, researchers and postgraduate students.

The purpose of the course is to form a system of knowledge about strategies and tactics of academic writing and technologies for organizing the processes of creation, analysis and editing of the main components of an academic article in English (Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion).

The course will be held from August 22 to September 30, 2022, on the Canvas platform in asynchronous mode, but in compliance with modular deadlines. Participants must be prepared to regularly complete tasks on the platform created from the authentic academic texts and videos, conduct discussions on the platform, review the work of their peers, and complete creative tasks.

The Czech side will issue an appropriate certificate after successfully completing the course. As a result of completing the course tasks, you will receive high-quality theses that you can submit for publication in the collection of the final project conference in Prague.

The best learner from each partner HEI will be granted a trip to Prague for the Summer School on Research Grants and a study tour in October 2022.

Who can apply?

Candidates have:

  • Be a teacher or graduate student of Sumy State University;
  • Have advanced reading and writing skills in English (B2).
  • Have regular and reliable access to high-speed Internet.
  • Be prepared to spend 6 to 7 hours per week online during the 5-week course.
  • Have a strong determination to improve academic research skills.
  • Be ready to participate in online discussions actively and complete all tasks on time.

By the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Immerse themself in the academic atmosphere;
  • Develop reflection skills;
  • Write a high-quality abstract for presentation at the conferences;
  • Know and write the components of an academic article in line with the requirements of modern English-language indexed journals;
  • Receive a grant for participation in a summer school and study visit to Prague in October 2022.

Within August-December 2022, the Czech University of Natural Sciences in Prague (Czech Republic) and Sumy State University will jointly implement the development project “INCREASING THE POTENTIAL OF GRADUATE STUDENTS FOR QUALITY RESEARCH IN UKRAINE,” financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
