Participation of the Jean Monet Module Project Contributor in the Round Table “Successful European practices of zero waste and circular economy development: prospects for implementation in Ukraine”

On June 29, 2023, the contributor of the European Commission Jean Monnet Module grant  “Implementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats” (101085700 – IMEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH) (2022-2025) PhD, Associate Professor Viktoriia Shkola took part in the round table “Successful European practices of zero waste and circular economy development: prospects for implementation in Ukraine”, which was held online by Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

During the meeting, zero-waste technologies, the EU circular economy action plan, and European zero-waste practices toward a climate-neutral city (examples of Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, and Sweden) were considered;features of EU circular economy development and prospects for Ukraine.

Moreover, valuable practices of successful greening of the urban environment, in particular, the experience of circular EU cities such as Vienna (Austria), Roubaix (France), Antwerp (Belgium), and Maribor (Germany), were shown.

Furthermore, the participants of the event discussed the problems of creating a road map and the transition to a sustainable city, the issues of implementing European zero-waste practices in Ukraine, the shortcomings of the administrative and management system using the example of the construction project of a waste processing plant at the Pravoberezhny solid waste landfill in Dnipro; problem issues of building a climate-neutral, resource-efficient and competitive economy in Ukraine and the post-war reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.
