Participation of team member of the EU Erasmus+ program project «Implementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats» and students of the specialty international economic relations and tourism business and hospitality industry in the online event “Medium-sized business in Ukraine: Terra incognita or “hidden” Mittelstand”

On January 30, 2024, team member of the EU Erasmus+ program project on the topic ” Implementation of European Union mechanisms for combating modern challenges and threats ” (101085700 – IMEU – ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEITCH-RSCH) Phd of economics, assoc. prof. Marуna Domashenko and students majoring in international economic relations and tourism business and the hospitality industry took part in the online event “Medium-sized business in Ukraine: Terra incognita or “hidden” Mittelstand”.

The organizer of the event is the NGO “Institute of Economic Research and Political Consultations” (IED), with the support of the Representative Office of the “Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom” in Ukraine.

Key positions of the event:

– Legislative criteria for determining a medium-sized business in Ukraine;

– The role of medium-sized businesses according to official statistical data;

– Sources of the emergence of medium-sized enterprises in the Ukrainian economy;

– Ways of expanding small business and possible obstacles;

– Average business during the war. Problems and obstacles to the growth of medium-sized businesses;

– Average business and unscrupulous practices. Informal relations with the authorities;

– Is it possible to talk about the “oligarchy” of medium-sized businesses at the local level? (interviews with stakeholders);

– Economic development, middle business and middle class. Can a medium-sized business become a driver of change?

In addition, a panel discussion “Modern medium-sized business in Ukraine: characteristics, challenges and ways of development” was held as part of the event.
