At a young age, it’s not every day that we hear about individuals making an impact in their community and beyond. However, the student of the Sumy State University is breaking the mold and demonstrating leadership skills well beyond her years. Meet Olena Bilotserkivska!
A successful alumna of the Ukrainian Leadership Academy, project manager, coordinator, Sumy Youth Council member, and Sumy State University Ambassador these are just a few of the titles that this accomplished individual can boast. Her name is a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and passion in shaping one’s future. This article will explore the various achievements of this remarkable young lady and the path that she has taken during her bachelor’s at our university.
Our subject began her journey towards success by enrolling in the Ukrainian Leadership Academy, a prestigious 10-month education program for adolescents in Ukraine who aspire to become the new generation of leaders in the country. Despite being only in her first year at Sumy State University, she saw the opportunity to develop her leadership skills and applied for the program. It was an intensive program that tested her abilities and challenged her to grow, but she emerged successful and equipped with a strong foundation in leadership.
Her experience and the knowledge she gained from the program inspired her to become a project manager and coordinator for two NGOs between her first and second years of studying. Olena implemented eight social projects in total, which had a positive impact on the community and helped her develop her leadership abilities.
As Olena progressed through her academic journey, she continued to challenge herself and explore new opportunities. Her commitment to leadership and social change continued when she became a member of the Sumy Youth Council in the autumn of 2020. This opportunity allowed her to be part of the decision-making process and to advocate for issues that were important to her and her community.

In her second year of studying, she embarked on an international Erasmus+ exchange program at the University of Almeria in Spain, where she studied economic sciences during the spring term of 2021. The following year, she spent the spring term of 2022 at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, which gave her the opportunity to experience a new culture and learn about different economic systems.
When the war in Ukraine broke out, Olena was living in Prague, and she immediately joined the volunteering movement to help her fellow Ukrainians. Her dedication to volunteerism and community service continued even as she pursued her education and career goals.
Despite her impressive achievements, Olena continues to push herself further and is currently undertaking a Mitacs Globalink Research Internship at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. This opportunity allowed her to gain valuable experience in her field and to network with professionals from around the world.
What is remarkable about Olena’s achievements is that she achieved so much in so little time, despite not physically being in Sumy for much of it. Her willingness to seek out opportunities beyond her university and community has allowed her to gain valuable experience and knowledge, and to make a positive impact on the world. As Olena continues on her journey, she serves as an inspiration to other young people who aspire to be leaders and to make a difference in the world. Her dedication, hard work, and commitment to social justice and leadership are a testament to the power of education and determination. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young lady who has already accomplished so much!
