On 21 April 2026, the Department of International Economic Relations at Sumy State University hosted a guest open lecture titled “Artificial Intelligence as a Reader, Author and Reviewer: What Remains for Humans?”, bringing together students, early-career researchers, and academic staff to explore the evolving role of AI in research.
The speaker of the event was Yana Suchikova – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Research at Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, and a science and nanotechnology promoter.
The lecture focused on practical applications of AI in research, ethical considerations surrounding its use, and institutional approaches to regulating AI in higher education. However, the most valuable aspect of the event was the dynamic and engaging discussion that followed.
Participants actively contributed to the conversation, sharing their own experiences with AI tools, raising questions about the boundaries of their use, academic integrity, and the changing role of researchers in a rapidly digitalising environment. This exchange of perspectives – from technical to human-centred – enriched the overall understanding of the topic.
The event became not only a source of new knowledge but also a platform for meaningful dialogue on the future of science in the age of artificial intelligence. It is through such discussions that a responsible and reflective approach to the use of emerging technologies in research is shaped.
