LECTURE ON MODERN RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION PRACTICES

The Department of International Economic Relations of Sumy State University continues its practice of engaging international experts in the educational process.

Within the framework of the international virtual academic mobility programme «Modern Research and Publication Practices» (30 March 2026 – 30 June 2026), an open lecture was held on 15 April 2026 by Muhammad Ali Nasir, Professor of Economics at the University of Leeds (United Kingdom) and a visiting professor, on the topic «Practices of Publication Excellence for Researchers and PhD Students».

During the lecture, key aspects of preparing research articles for publication in international academic journals were discussed. Particular attention was paid to selecting an appropriate journal, analysing its aims and scope, and meeting manuscript structure requirements.

The lecture also addressed the preparation of titles, abstracts, and keywords as tools for increasing research visibility, as well as the specifics of writing an introduction, developing a research niche, presenting results, and drawing conclusions.

Considerable attention was given to the role of theoretical frameworks in research, to current issues in the academic literature, particularly the “file-drawer” effect, and to the principles of proper presentation of research findings.

Participants also received practical recommendations on communication with editors and reviewers, preparing a cover letter, and increasing the likelihood of manuscript acceptance.

The lecture enhanced participants’ understanding of modern publication requirements and developed their research competencies.
